At Alifia Hair and Makeup, every haircut helps make a difference! A portion of our proceeds proudly supports Hoima Public School, a cherished primary school in Uganda’s Western Region.
Founded in 1944 by the Indian community, Hoima Public School has been a cornerstone of education in the region, serving children with dedication and heart. Beyond academics, the school works to provide clean drinking water and other essential resources for its students.
Through my father’s charitable work with this incredible institution, and with your support, we’re able to contribute to improving the lives of these young learners. Together, we’re transforming lives - one haircut at a time!
The Hoima Public School Fund holds deep personal significance for my family. The initial idea for the charity was born during a visit to Hoima, Uganda, in 2008, led by my father, Samsudin Abdulhusein. Hoima is where my father was born and raised, and he has cherished memories of his childhood and the school he attended. However, in 1972, at the age of 12, my father was forced to leave Uganda due to the expulsion of the Ugandan Asians by Idi Amin.
When my father returned to Hoima with our family decades later, he was shocked by the school’s condition. The same desks he once used were still there, but class sizes had doubled, the latrines were unusable, and there was only one working tap for fresh water. The school had no security fencing and was being used as a public thoroughfare.
This visit inspired my father to take action. Upon his return to England, he was determined to raise funds to help the school and honor his late parents, Sadik and Banu Abdulhusein. His father, Sadik, passed away in Hoima in March 1972, just before the expulsion, and his mother, Banu, passed away in 2008. Supporting this cause not only helps improve education for children in Hoima but also serves as a tribute to the community and values that shaped our family.
At Alifia Hair and Makeup, giving back is at the heart of what we do. A percentage of every haircut you book directly supports the Hoima Public School Fund, helping provide essential resources for students in need. By simply getting your haircut, you’re contributing to a cause that makes a real difference in young lives. It’s a simple way to look great and do good at the same time.
If you’d like to support the Hoima Public School Fund beyond your haircut, your donation can make a real impact. The school is in urgent need of a new Public Announcement system, classroom furniture, and sports kits. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps create a brighter future for the children. Donations can be made directly to the charity account: Sadikbanu Welfare Trust, Account Number 93033503, Sort Code 20-76-89, or via PayPal using the email address samsudinabdulhusein@gmail.com.
Thank you for making a difference!
